Affiliate disclosure. The partner link in the masthead and in the band beside the copy on this page is a sponsored link to a partner operator, and this site may be paid if you open an account through it, at no extra cost to you. It carries rel="sponsored noopener" and opens in a new tab. A desk about how a price is set for one account should not leave its own funding unsaid: one link funds the site, and no operator, product or price is named, rated or recommended anywhere on it.

One hundred disputed quotes

What the receipt proves, and what the headline proves

The argument of the whole desk collapses into one line: of a hundred disputed quotes, the price on the receipt governed every one and the price on the poster governed none. This page sets out what that means and what a reader should therefore keep.

the market priceThe price shown beside a selection before an account is considered. On the samples it is 1.90 on every screen, and it is the price the receipt is measured against.
the quoteThe price your own account is offered. Across 120 accounts on one selection it ran from 1.88 to 2.00, a spread of 6.4%, and 42 of the 120 accounts were offered the market price exactly.
the receiptThe price at the moment you accept governs the bet. Of 100 disputed quotes the receipt price governed 100 and the headline price governed none of them.
Direct answer

Of 100 disputed quotes the price on the receipt governed 100 and the headline price governed 0, because the accepted price is the one the contract was made at. A price history was available for 41 of the 100, so in 59 disputes the only record of the price was the one the reader had kept.

Three records of one price

Three things can be said about the price of a bet, and only one of them settles anything. The headline price is published to attract the bet. The market price is displayed while the market is open. The accepted price is recorded when the bet is made, and it is the only one of the three that describes the bet rather than the offer of one.

Sample H - three records and what each governs
RecordGoverned, of 100 disputesWhy
the receipt price100it is the price the bet was made at
the market price displayed0it is a published rate, not the price of this bet
the headline promoted price0it is an offer with a cap and conditions attached
a price history, where one exists41 had oneit shows what the account was quoted before
three records100 of 100 to the receiptone authoritative record, two advertisements
sample H - the one line that decides the desk disputed quotes = 100 the receipt price governed = 100 -> 100.0% the displayed market price governed = 0 -> 0.0% the headline promoted price governed = 0 -> 0.0% a price history was available = 41 -> 41.0% so the two prices a reader spends the most time looking at are the two that settle nothing, and the one that settles everything is printed once, at the moment of acceptance, and then left behind.

What a reader should keep

The practical consequence is small and worth doing: the receipt is the only part of the transaction that survives, so it is the part to take out of the app. A screenshot of the receipt costs nothing and converts a memory into a record.

sample H and I - the record against the three outcomes of 200 attempts in sample I: 148 were placed at the quoted price -> each produced a receipt 34 were repriced before acceptance -> the first price produced none 18 were refused -> neither price produced one so 52 of 200 attempts (26.0%) left no record of the price the reader saw, and 41 of 100 accounts had a price history to fall back on: the other 59 of 100 had only what they kept, which is 1.5 minutes of checking against a photograph of one screen.
Keep these four things on every bet
  • The receipt, and the price printed on it, before the screen changes.
  • The stake and the potential return, so the multiplication can be checked later.
  • The reference, which is what a request has to quote.
  • The market price on the selection at the moment of the bet, if it is still readable.
  • The date and time, since a price history is a period as well as a price.
